Volunteer Position: Work Project Foreman

Agency: Dallas County Juvenile Department

Population Served: Deferred Pros/First Offenders

General summary of volunteer project:
Community service restitution is sometimes required of juvenile offenders. Volunteers are needed to supervise hands on projects.

Time commitment: Hours per week: Open Hours per month: 6

Length of Commitment: 6 months-1 year
4 - 6 hours per month or every other month, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturdays

Location: Dallas County Juvenile, 2600 Lone Star Drive, Dallas TX 75212 (Mapsco #43V)

Specific volunteer responsibilities:

  1. Work with youth in a small group setting (2-4 youth).
  2. Supervise and work along with youth who are completing required community service hours.
  3. Pull weeds, trim bushes and trees, etc., around main office building and Cedar Hill State Park.

Volunteer qualifications:

  1. Must be patient and reliable, as well as a good listener.
  2. Must enjoy working with teenagers.
  3. Must be 21 years of age or older, pass a criminal background and reference checks.
  4. Must enjoy the outdoors and yard work.

Training required:

  1. 7-hour general training provided by Volunteer Coordinator.
  2. 1-hour specific training provided by institution program or activity coordinator.
  3. Yearly in-service training.
