Volunteer Position: Tutor

Agency: Dallas Independent School District 

Population Served: Kids in Chaotic Homes

General summary of volunteer project:
Tutors are needed to assist students either one-on-one or in small groups in reading, mathematics, and other subject areas. The district has a focus on reading and comprehension (Dallas Reading plan, to have children reading on grade level by third grade.)

Time commitment: Hours per week: 1-2 
Hours per month:
5-14

Length of commitment: School year (Aug - May)

Location of project: 218 schools throughout Dallas Independent School District

Specific volunteer responsibilities:

  1. One-on-one tutoring, all subjects.
  2. Ability to tutor a small group of students.
  3. One with small group of students.

Volunteer qualifications:

  1. Literate, caring adult with belief that all students can be successful.

Training required:

  1. One 2-hour session scheduled on a regular basis at DISD's administration building.
  2. Sessions can be provided for a group at their site.
