Volunteer Position: Tutor

General summary of volunteer project:
Due to poor attendance in school and a lack of basic instruction, many
of the youth in our system are below level academically, especially in
math and reading (language arts). Volunteers are needed to provide
one-on-one tutoring to identified youth.
Time commitment: Hours per week: 2
Hours per month: 2-8
Length of commitment: 6 months to a year

Specific volunteer responsibilities:
- Work one-on-one with youth helping with homework.
- Assist with tutoring program provided by unit or institution teachers.
- Teach student study skills.
Volunteer qualifications:
- Must pass criminal history and reference check.
- Must be 21 years
of age or older.
- Must have basic knowledge of math, reading and writing.
- Must be patient, reliable, and an excellent listener.
Training required:
- 7 hour training sessions, including written material for review.
- 1-hour specific training provided by institution program or activity
coordinator.
- Yearly in-service training.
