volunteer project:
This program proposes to place caring individuals with students
one-on-one who need positive support for their educational and personal
growth.
Time commitment:
Hours per week: 1-2
Hours per month: 5-14
Length of
commitment: School year (Aug - May)
Location: 218
schools throughout Dallas Independent School District
Specific volunteer
responsibilities:
- Volunteer is matched
with one student for the school year.
- This is non-academic, unless mentor wants to assist with subject
matter.
- Focus on emotional support and serve as a friend, role model, etc.
Volunteer qualifications:
- A mature, caring individual willing to commit his or her time to
needy students.
- A person who likes and respects children and young adults.
- Commitment of school year.
Training required:
- One 2-hour session scheduled on a regular basis at DISD's
administration building.
- Sessions can be provided for a group at their site.
