Volunteer Position: Family Outreach Volunteer

General summary of volunteer project:
Family Outreach Center volunteers partner with CPS to provide in-home casework services and community based programs to strengthen families and prevent the need for legal intervention.

Time commitment: Hours per week: 2-3 
Hours per month:
8-12

Length of commitment: One year

Specific volunteer responsibilities:

  1. Attend required training.
  2. Work with an "At risk" family, help identify family's strengths and decrease family problems.
  3. Serve as support system for client family and assist in linking family with available community resources.

Volunteer qualifications:

  1. Mature person who believes in prevention.
  2. Ability to listen to another's point of view.
  3. Optimistic about progress.

Training required:

  1. 20 hours of training, includes dynamics of physical and emotional abuse, neglect, and child sexual abuse.
  2. Stress management, family structure, and communication skills.
