Volunteer Position: Early Childhood Psycho-Education Intervention Asst.

Agency: Dallas County Juvenile Dept.

Population Served: Abused/Neglect in Care

General summary of volunteer project:
The volunteer will assist the therapist in a program which works with children ages 3 to 9 who are accompanying family members as they attend various counseling programs at the Department.

Time commitment: Hours per week: Tues. Nights 7:00-9:00 Hours per month: 1 night per wk.
for 6 weeks.

Length of commitment: 6 months to a year

Location: 2600 Lone Star Dr., Dallas TX 75212 (Mapsco #43V)

Specific volunteer responsibilities:

  1. Assist therapist with educating the children as to the importance of basic laws, authority figures (i.e. such as police officers, fire department, etc.) and general safety measures in a fun, exciting and age-appropriate manner.
  2. Assist with games, artwork and other exercises.
  3. Assist with room clean-up after program.

Volunteer qualifications:

  1. Must be patient and reliable.
  2. Must enjoy small children.
  3. Must be 21 years of age or older, pass a criminal history and reference check.

Training required:

  1. Seven hour training provided by the volunteer coordinator.
  2. One hour specific training by therapist leading program.
  3. Yearly in-service training.
