Volunteer Position: Child Care Assistant

General summary of volunteer project:
There are several areas where childcare help is needed:   for supervised visits, to watch children waiting to be interviewed or removed from their homes, to watch children while the parents are in therapy sessions, and watch foster children on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month while the foster parents are meeting.

Time commitment: Hours per week: 2-4 hrs.

Hours per month: 4-8 hrs.

Specific volunteer responsibilities:

  1. These volunteers can choose to do a specific supervised every week, or they may come in on our foster parent nights  (7-9) to help watch children, or be on call to come in as needed to watch children.
  2. Duties vary: Visit supervisors take notes during the visit for the caseworker and keep the visit starting on time and running smoothly.  Make sure the rooms are cleaned up (by parents and children) before the end of the visit. Ensure smooth transfer of child to the foster parent or driver.
  3. Those volunteers who are watching children for other reasons may be playing with the kids, keep them safe and under control.  May need to change a diaper or give a bottle to a baby, help feed children.

Volunteer qualifications:

  1. Must pass a background check and sign pledge of confidentiality.
  2. Must be over 18 years of age. 
  3. Must be organized, reliable and able to keep information confidential.

Training required:

Training will be on the job, but there is a mandatory orientation before being allowed to work with the children.
