Volunteer Position: Assist as a Speaker (For Juvenile Programs)

Agency: Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program 

Population Served: Kids in Chaotic Homes, Juvenile Delinquents, Truants & Runaways

General summary of volunteer opportunity:
The volunteer attorney leads a class for youth or for youth and their parents.

Time commitment: Hours per week: 2-3 Hours Hours per commitment: 2-3 Hours

Length of commitment: One Class Minimum

Location: Various Sites, which include:
Dallas County Juvenile Justice Center at 2600 Lone Star Drive (Mapsco #43V)
Local Schools (during school hours)

Specific volunteer responsibilities:

  1. Speak with students (and sometimes their parents), in a classroom-style setting about juvenile law issues.
  2. Meetings have various times, including during working hours, in the evenings or on weekends.

Volunteer qualifications:

  1. Must be a licensed Texas attorney in good standing with SBOT.
  2. Must complete volunteer applications and agree to criminal history check, SBOT, and employment check.

Training provided:

  1. Written materials are provided for review.
  2. A two hour training session is required for the classes in connection with Dallas Challenge, Inc. at the Dallas County Juvenile Justice Center.
