Volunteer Position: Alcoholics Anonymous Support Group

Agency: Texas Youth Commission

Population Served:  Kids in TYC Facilities

General summary of volunteer project:
Provide educational groups on chemical dependency for youth who choose to freely participate.

Time commitment:  Hours per week: 1-2 Hours 
Hours per month: 4-8 Hours

Length of commitment: Open

Location: 5415 Maple Ave., #225, Dallas, TX 75235 (Mapsco #31B-M)

Specific volunteer responsibilities:

  1. Consistently provide a forum for A.A. meetings on a weekly basis.
  2. Introduce group members to the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.
  3. Maintain confidentiality of all information concerning students at Texas Youth Commission.

Volunteer qualifications:

  1. Completion of Texas Youth Commission basic orientation and certification.
  2. Be able to conduct weekly meetings on a consistent basis.
  3. Work under the supervision of the Coordinator of Volunteer Services and receive guidance, instruction and specific training from program administrators, caseworkers and/or dormitory directors as needed.

Training required: (1 ½ - 2 hours)

  1. Basic orientation and certification process to Texas Youth Commission.
  2. In-service training offered on a monthly basis. Classes should be attended as needed.
  3. Volunteer may request additional training at any time in specific areas.
